The Five Valleys Chapter is currently assisting with an
important conservation project for those of us in western Montana.
This project, the Elkhorns Initiative, is located southeast of Helena.
It is a five year, 20,000 acre project, which includes the acquisition
of key properties in the Elkhorn Mountains. These acquisitions will
provide year round habitat for bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, antelope
and many other species of wildlife. Public ownership of this habitat
would prevent residential development, maintain historic agricultural
production and provide public access to the properties as well as
to adjacent public lands.
